Alessandro de’ Medici Intaglio

£19.00

A handmade plaster intaglio created by the Nicholas H Wood studio. The cast descends from the original roundel depicting Alexander de’ Medici, Duke of Florence.

The relief presents the profile of the duke, surrounded by the Latin inscription “ALEXANDER MEDICES FLORENTIA DVX.” Known as Il Moro, Alessandro de’ Medici (1510–1537) was the first Duke of Florence and a pivotal figure in the city’s shift from republic to dynastic rule. Appointed duke in 1532 with the support of Emperor Charles V, his brief reign sought to consolidate Medici power. He was assassinated in 1537 by his cousin Lorenzino de’ Medici, ending his rule after only five years.

The surface shows subtle signs of age, including minor wear and patina, which contribute to its authentic, timeworn character.

Made from high-quality plaster, it has a wall hook on the back for easy hanging.

Dimensions (cm): 9cm (height) x 9cm (width) x 1cm (depth).
