Night Roundel

£30.00

Handmade plaster relief created by Nicholas H Wood. This cast reproduces Night, one half of Thorvaldsen’s celebrated Day and Night Roundels. The figure of Night is depicted as a serene winged woman, gently carrying two sleeping children in her arms, while an owl glides below — a timeless symbol of quiet and rest.

Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844) was a Danish neoclassical sculptor celebrated for his serene and idealised figures inspired by ancient Greek and Roman art. Working mainly in Rome, he became one of Europe’s most acclaimed artists of his time, creating masterpieces such as Christ and the Twelve Apostles for Copenhagen Cathedral and the Day and Night reliefs. His refined style and poetic restraint helped define the neoclassical movement in sculpture.

Cast in fine plaster and fitted with a wall hook on the reverse for effortless display.

Dimensions: 15cm (diameter) × 2cm (depth)
